Hour 42 - Personal Branding

Hour 42: Todays Podcast: Two Magicians. One Mic.
Episode 17 - Interview with Murray Sawchuck, discussing his Brand of ‘Celebrity Magician’.
My friend Brent Seaver and I caught Murray Sawchuck’s magic show in Las Vegas and we had the opportunity to talk with him briefly after the show. He was a very likeable bloke, so I decided to search for any podcast interviews with Murray…and fortunately I found this one.
I’ve discussed branding before with Tom Foster (Hour 32 video) and how important you are to your own brand and Murray reconfirmed this. His overall image, how he looks and dresses, and how he is perceived is a huge part of his own unique brand.
He shared a very good idea about how to find out how you’re being perceived by others. You may think you look like James Bond, where is fact you are perceived more like Mr. Bean. So while you’re trying to dress, act cool and be sophisticated like Bond, others see your as goofy and funny, therefore you have to speak, dress and act accordingly.
Here’s the tip: Get a few friends together and have them invite up to 5 complete strangers…people that do not know you. Dress how you would for work, or for a presentation and then stand in front of them and talk for a few minutes. While you’re talking they write down words that describe how you look and the perception you’re putting out there…this can and will help you create your own personal brand.
I’m sure I haven’t done this interview justice, so I would really recommend listening to the whole recording. It’s a great podcast.
