Hour 60 - Finding Real Value

Hour 60: The Dent Podcast with Glen Carlson, Episode 28: Interview with Jason Malouin - How He Found The Value His Clients Were Looking For.

I apologise, this video went for 2-minutes and I know everyones attention span only lasts for 60 - 90 seconds, but there were two really important takeaway points I wanted to share.
  1. Your environment dictates your performance: Jason Malouin is a photographer and he explained how one piece of equipment, positioned a particular way, changed the whole working relationship between him and the client.
My Thoughts: Let’s take it one step further; your environment will also influence your attitude and the attitude of your team, clients or patients. If you have outdated equipment and  old furniture how does this reflect on you and your business? How does your team feel and perform working in this environment? If you think it doesn’t matter you need to give yourself an uppercut.
  1. Creating a niche will not lose you money: Jason was a generalised commercial photographer, however once he decided to focus on portrait photography, his business boomed. He still did other photography work, but he put his energy and focus towards the area of photography he loved most and was passionate about, and it wasn’t based on what area of photography was the most lucrative.
My Thoughts: Every business can create niche. Ideally it will be the one part of your occupation you love the most, and if it also happens to be the most lucrative, then that’s a bonus (that’s what I did). Many business people don’t look for niche’s because they’re too scared.

Hour 59 - Try Everything (Persistence Podcast)

Hour 59: Persistence Podcast with Robyn Hartung, interviewing Jamar Jordan from Legit Chaos. Episode 1: - TRY EVERYTHING.

I was in Port Douglas because a friend of mine Len Ferguson from The FINN Group asked if I would speak at their annual conference on ‘Persistence & Resilience’. I was followed by fellow speakers and authors Jason Cunningham and legend Steve Bradbury, our first Winter Gold Medalist. Awesome day!

Today’s takeaway: As you grow your business you must try new things and constantly be working out what works and what doesn’t work for your business. Adjust and tweak your ideas as needed…but never give up on them. The Persistence podcast motto is YOU ONLY FAIL WHEN YOU STOP TRYING

I really enjoyed the energy between host Robyn Hartung and guest Jamar Jordan, and the way they openly shared their thoughts and bounced ideas off of each other. If you’re an inspiring entrepreneur, you’ll enjoy this podcast.

Hour 58 - The Power of Acceptance

HOUR 58: The Being Happy podcast, Episode 5 - The Power of Acceptance with Andrew Matthews.

Very simple message today: Throughout life there are things you cannot change, and if you cannot change them you need to learn to accept them and then work on the thing you can change.

He was asked if acceptance is being negative and a sign of giving up and he said ‘NO’.

Acceptance is not about giving up, it’s about realising the truth, it’s a reality check. There’s somethings in life you simply cannot change, such as your height, your family, etc, so why worry about them, or let them limit your success.

You cannot change what you cannot change, so accept it.

So instead work on the things you can change, like you attitude towards life, your circle of friends, maybe your weight, employment and your bank balance. These are all in your control.

Hour 57 - DJ SHRI

HOUR 57: Today’s podcast Vroom Vroom Veer hosted by Jeff Smith. In this episode, dated 24/10/16, he interviews DJ Shri, who is a marketing and music coach.
Today’s takeaway tips:
  1. You can’t start at the top. If you see someone who is at the top of their game, and you know that’s where you want to be one day, you need to be prepared to start at the bottom and put in a lot of hard work. That’s how they got there.
  2. There’s nothing wrong with getting a university education. Too often you’ll hear entrepreneurs say that college or university is a waste of time, and it can stunt your entrepreneurial spirit, but DJ Shri totally disagreed. University opens your mind to new experiences and people, which can assist you in your entrepreneurial journey. This was music to my ears. (forgive the pun)
  3. You need to follow your passion. Working with passion will always pay dividends.

Hour 56 - Contrast Stands Out (Role Models)

HOUR 56 in MELBOURNE - Today’s podcast is Elevating Beyond hosted by Mark Minard - Episode 131 interviewing Tom Schwab.
Today’s takeaway: If you’re looking for advice you need to find good role models. If you want advice on how to have a better marriage, you don’t talk to someone who’s been divorced five times, they probably won’t have the answers you’re looking for. This translates into every aspect of your life.
If you’re looking for business advice, find a role model that has owned and operated a successful business.
Now, if you cannot find a role model in your circle of friends, family or community, you can easily search online. Find an expert, or experts, in a particular area and listen to their podcasts, read their blogs, and watch their videos. If they have a book…read it. A role model doesn’t have to be someone you personally know.
This episode was almost split into two parts, what I’ve mentioned above, and what I talk on the video regarding role models and then the second half they discussed contrast and standing out in business using podcasting. I won’t go into detail here, but if your interested in podcasts and marketing through podcasting it’s worth listening to.

HOUR 55 - Learn To Speak Like A Pro

HOUR 55: Todays podcast was Duct Tape Marketing hosted by John Jantsch - Learn To Speak Like A Pro with Grant Baldwin from The Speakers Lab. #TheSpeakersLab #DuctTapeMarketing

If you want to speak like a professional, the more you do it the better you’re going to get, which makes sense, however Grant Baldwin said you need to also look at three very important aspects first.

WHY do you want to be a professional speaker, WHO are you going to talk to and WHAT are you going to talk about. You need to get these three things right.

WHY do you want to be a professional speaker? Is it simply to make money, or are you wanting to promote and sell a book, a course, or maybe a particular product?

WHO are you going to talk to? You can’t say I’ll talk to anyone, instead you have to narrow down your audience if you really want to be an effective and professional speaker.

And finally, WHAT are you going to speak about. Once again to be effective you can’t say you’ll talk about anything. What are your strengths and what subject do you really want to talk about.

When you see an amazing speaker, more than likely they’ve done that particular speech hundreds of times, first starting with smaller groups before moving onto larger audiences.

They’ve worked out what works and what doesn’t and used this experience to become a better speaker. Also, they limit their topics to just a few, which is why they know the subject so well, and this explains why they seem so good when you see them for the first time. This is what makes them awesome.

Hour 54 - Salesmanship #AskGaryVee Show

Hour 54: The #AskGaryVee Show, with Gary Vaynerchuk: Episode 232

Today’s Takeaway: Gary was asked a question about salesmanship, and is it required in all industries to be successful…and it was big resounding YES. Without sales skills you will not survive. #sales #Salesmanship

The reason many artists and musicians are broke and struggle is becasue they cannot sell themselves. Everything starts with the sale. Every successful business person has learnt the skill of selling. #Success

He went on to explain how his younger 22 year old self, who was a good salesperson, would be impressed with his current 40 year old self, and the wisdom he has picked up along the way.

If you’re already a great salesperson, you need to be constantly challenging yourself, testing new ideas and strategies, and constantly working on becoming even better than you currently are. #365HourChallenge #TysonEFranklin

Hour 53 - What To Do When Your Broke

Hour 53: The Charged Life with Brendon Burchard - What To Do When You’re Broke.

This podcast episode is all about dealing with ‘the reality’ of being financially broke. Brendon shares 5 really good tips, but today I’m only sharing one, so you’ll need to listen to the whole podcast to hear the rest.

Today Takeaway: - If you’re under financial stress, stop lying to yourself. Stop telling yourself everything is really good, or pretending you’re doing much better than you really are to your friends and family. Stop buying things you cannot afford and stop trying to keep up with the people around you who may be in a better financial situation. Live within your means.

Hour 52 - Guitar Speak: 70th Anniversary Maton Guitars

HOUR 52: The Guitar Speak Podcast - Ep 21: Maton Guitars 70th Anniversary. An interview with their General Manager David Steedman. #Maton #Matonguitars #GuitarSpeak

Maton Guitars are an iconic Australian guitar manufacturer and they have built their company on ‘Quality, not Quantity’, and that’s the takeaway point I want to share today.

In your current business, are you chasing quality or quality?

There’s a different business mindset behind them both. With quality you may produce less, but it allows you to charge a premium for your quality services or products.

Maton Guitars only manufactures 8000 guitars a year, which may sound like a lot, but when you consider they export to Asia and America, it’s not that many. Targeting quality or quantity will also determine the type of clients you attract.

Maton Guitars: http://maton.com.au/

My Thoughts: Quality versus Quality applies to every aspect of your life, not just business. Look at your social life. How many people do you know (quantity), compared to how many are true friends (quality).

On Social Media, you may have hundreds or thousands of friends, but how many really interact with you? How many LIKE your posts or FOLLOW your pages? It’s only a small percentage…the quality ones.

If you’re exercising, you can choose to put in 100% for 30- 45 minutes, or go half-arsed for hours, but in the end the quality workout will win every time.

HOUR 51 - Interview with Ashley Zahabian

HOUR 51: The Total Freedom Podcast, hosted by Christopher Duncan, and in episode 48 he is interviewing Ashley Zahabian.

Yes she is only 21 years of age, but she is wise beyond her years. Ashley openly shares a lot about herself, her personal challenges, and also how she got to be on stage, at 21 years of age, with the Youtube master Gary Vaynerchuk.

It’s a great interview and here are just two really good takeaways I would like to share.
  1. Successful people condition themselves to be successful, it doesn’t just happen by accident. No different to a sports person constantly training to improve their fitness and skill levels in every aspect of their sport, successful people do the same thing. They are constantly working to be better.
  2. If you’re looking for guidance and advice, find a mentor or coach who has done what you want to do, and look for the best. Don’t start at the bottom, instead start and the top and work your way down. Don’t go cheap.
My thoughts: Regardless of age or gender, we can all learn from each other.

Hour 50 - PLAY BIG

Hour 50: The School Of Greatness Podcast with Lewis Howes, Episode 390: PLAY BIG. #SchoolOfGreatness #365HourChallenge
Today’s Takeaway (there was a lot): When you’re setting goals, or targets for yourself…make them BIG. Don’t set small pissy little goals, instead make your goals that big they’re going to scare you, which I have mentioned before.
With big goals you may get a bit battered and bruised, both emotionally an physically, but set goals outside of your comfort zone, becasue that’s where amazing things happen.
Lewis Howes shared examples of his university days and his mindset about wanting to go to the Olympics…amazing stuff. He set HUGE goals and then reverse engineered them to work out how and what he needed to do and become to achieve these goals.
You also need to be accountable.
My thoughts: I have told so many people, all over the world, about my 365 Hour Mental and Physical Challenge, that I now truly understand what ACCOUNTABILITY is. Being accountable to others has helped me developed the DISCIPLINE to keep going with this challenge. I no longer require motivation to put on my walking shoes…it’s pure discipline to that makes me put them on.
So remember to play BIG, set goals that are are going to challenge you, and potentially even hurt you a little bit…

Hour 49 - The Ready To Soar Podcast Series

Hour 49: The Ready To Soar Podcast Series with Naomi Simson, Episode 1: Ready to Dream and Episode 2: Ready To Take The First Steps.
These are short podcasts and they follow on from each other, so it made sense to review two at the same time. I’ll do the same with episodes 3 and 4 in the near future.
Todays Takeaways:
First Takeaway: Have big goals and dreams that scare the absolute crap out of you. If your goals and dreams don’t scare you, then they’re not big enough. They’ve got to generate an emotion.
Second Takeaway: Many people let fear stop them from taking the necessary first steps into a new business venture. Naomi explained that when she started Red Balloon, she new very little about the internet and even less about online selling, but she didn’t let the unknown stop her from investigating these areas further.
Once she learnt more, she was then able to make a more educated decision to pursue or not pursue her idea.
So if the fear of ‘not knowing something' is holding you back…take the first step and start to investigate the unknown further.

My Own Thoughts: 12-Months ago I knew nothing about video editing, but I really wanted to know more, so I started to investigate it further. I paid someone to show me the basics, over a four hour period, and then I went onto Youtube and watch a ton of videos on equipment setup, cameras, lighting and finally editing. Now I’m no Steven Spielberg, but I’m so much better then the 2015 version of Tyson E. Franklin and in 2017 I will be an improve version of my current self.

HOUR 48 - 15 Qualities Of Successful People

Hour 48 - The Ziglar Show: Inspiring Your True Performance, with Kevin Miller and Tom Ziglar - Episode 430: 15 Qualities Of Successful People.
Forget about the ‘Keys To Success’ and what you should DO, Zig Ziglar shares his ‘Qualities Of Success’ and what you should BE. We’re human BEings not human DOings.
Ziglar’s Message: You’re where you are and what you are by what’s gone into your mind…You can change what you are and you can change where you are by CHANGING what goes into your mind.
What you listen to, what you read and the company you keep has an influence on your life. Every piece of information that goes into your head has an impact on your thinking.
Tom Ziglar was asked the following question at a seminar.
Q: What’s the fastest way to success?
A: Remove bad habits and replace them with good habits.
For example, if you’re watching the late night news before you go to bed, it’s probably the worse thing you can do…there’s never any good, positive news, so instead you should read a book. Put in something positive.
My thoughts: I KNOW, some people don’t like to read…Well suck it up princess. You could always watch one of my videos before you go to bed…how scary is that as you go to sleep.

Hour 47 - Omnipresence with Trevor Young

HOUR 47 - Should I Start A Podcast with Ronsley Vas. Episode 47: OmniPresence with Trevor Young.
I’m a bit of a fan of this podcast series because the speakers are so diverse and there’s never a dull episode. I know I’ve only reviewed two so far, but I was listening to this series before I started this challenge.
There were a lot of takeaway points in this episode and I especially like how Trevor Young discussed the four different types of media we can be involved in and why it’s important to be diverse with where you can be found, becasue not everyone is looking on Google.
  1. Paid Media - traditional advertising
  2. Local Media - We may own the content we add, but we have no control over the site itself and the rules are constant changing, such as Facebook.
  3. Owned Media - This is the stuff we own and fully control, like our websites, newsletters, blogs and podcasts.
  4. Earned Media - This is the big one. Being invited to write on other blogs, be invited on someone else's podcast, appear in magazines and television.
To obtain earned media, you must first build your brand and reputation and over time, and with strategic thinking you will develop earned media opportunities.
Last point I wanted to share is to always be yourself. If you like wearing jeans and a t-shirt, then that’s what you should wear and if you like wearing a suit, then wear a suit. Be authentic…be who you are.

Hour 46 - Being A Better Communicator Improves Everything

Hour 46 - Body Wisdom Podcast with Dr. Michele, Episode One: Being A Better Communicator Improves Everything, with Dave Frees.
I loved this podcast because I personally know Dr. Michele Summers Colon and Dave Frees and consider them trusted friends, so it was enjoyable listening to them both share their wisdom.
Three massive takeaway’s from this podcast:
  1. Don’t tell people what you don’t want…instead tell them what you do want.
  2. When you’re giving someone instructions, the tone of your voice is extremely important.
  3. The quality of your communication will determine the quality of the response.
To understand these three points fully, you need to listen to this podcast interview from start to finish, because what I say in the video and what I’ve written here does not do it justice.

HOUR 45: Re-engagement PART 1

Hour 45 - The Small Business Success Podcast: Episode 30 - Re-Engagement PART 1
Many business people, regardless of the industry, will advertise to attract new customers to their business, and only a percentage will buy in the first instance.
Here’s today’s takeaway: The mistake business people make, is they go back to the beginning process of advertising to attract more new customers, instead of re-engaging with the ones they already have.
It costs far more to attract new customers than it does to re-engage with existing customers.
You may have already collected their contact details (Name, email, etc), so now you have to develop a systematic approach of staying in touch with these people. You need to be sharing relevant and worthwhile information with your customer base until they are ready to buy. Everyone buys at different times.
So just remember to develop your LIST, because your list is gold, put them into your SALES FUNNEL and set up SYSTEMATIC RE-ENGAGEMENT process of staying in touch on a regular basis.

Hour 44 - Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are

Hour 44 - Ted Talk with Amy Cuddy: Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are.
Yes, this was a video, but I was still able to listen to the audio component while I walked, and when necessary I would pull my phone out of my pocket and look at the charts.
What I found interesting was when Amy discussed scientific research that showed taking on a power pose, or dominate stance, increases your testosterone levels and decreases your cortisol levels, resulting in more confidence and less stressful reactive behaviour.
And when you take on poor posture and a less dominant stance your testosterone levels decrease and your cortisol levels increase, therefore you’re less confident and more stressed.
Here’s the takeaway: Don’t fake it till you make it. Fake it till you become it.
If you have to pretend you’re more confident than you really are, whether it’s for a public speaking role, a job interview, or a recent promotion at work, you need to learn to fake it till you become it. Over time you will become that person.

HOUR 43 - Why Good Leaders Make You Feel Safe

Hour 43 - The Kickass Lifestyle Podcast: Episode 326 hosted by David Wood - In this episode he reviewed a Ted Talk by Simon Sinek - Why Good Leaders Make You Feel Safe.
Part of the discussion was about why Marines put their lives on the line to save other Marines…and they do it because they know their fellow Marines would do it for them.
So how does this translate to business? Big companies and CEO’s that lay people off in tough times, to save their own skin, show a lack of leadership and therefore their employees never really feel safe.
Simon Sinek gave an example of a guy named Bob, who was instructed by the Board of Directors to lay people off because their company was $10 million in debt, but instead of agreeing, Bod came up with a different strategy, which he shared with his employees. If everyone agreed to take 4 weeks unpaid leave, he guaranteed everyone would keep their jobs.
All employees agreed and the end result was zero lay offs and the company made $20 million profit. The employees, now feeling safe because of good leadership, negotiated amongst themselves with their time off. Some took five weeks, while other only took three. They did what was in the best interest of everyone concerned.
Here’s the take away point: People feel safe when there’s good leadership.

Hour 42 - Personal Branding

Hour 42: Todays Podcast: Two Magicians. One Mic.
Episode 17 - Interview with Murray Sawchuck, discussing his Brand of ‘Celebrity Magician’.
My friend Brent Seaver and I caught Murray Sawchuck’s magic show in Las Vegas and we had the opportunity to talk with him briefly after the show. He was a very likeable bloke, so I decided to search for any podcast interviews with Murray…and fortunately I found this one.
I’ve discussed branding before with Tom Foster (Hour 32 video) and how important you are to your own brand and Murray reconfirmed this. His overall image, how he looks and dresses, and how he is perceived is a huge part of his own unique brand.
He shared a very good idea about how to find out how you’re being perceived by others. You may think you look like James Bond, where is fact you are perceived more like Mr. Bean. So while you’re trying to dress, act cool and be sophisticated like Bond, others see your as goofy and funny, therefore you have to speak, dress and act accordingly.
Here’s the tip: Get a few friends together and have them invite up to 5 complete strangers…people that do not know you. Dress how you would for work, or for a presentation and then stand in front of them and talk for a few minutes. While you’re talking they write down words that describe how you look and the perception you’re putting out there…this can and will help you create your own personal brand.
I’m sure I haven’t done this interview justice, so I would really recommend listening to the whole recording. It’s a great podcast.

HOUR 41 - Building The Truth

HOUR 41:
Today’s Podcast was from Seth Godin’s Start Up Business School, Episode 13: Building The Truth.
Tip # 1: Your product or service has got to match your location. For example, if you’re a Psychologist and you want to set up an online business providing ten-minute consultations for profit, you may need to do a number of free consultations first with each client, so you can build trust, and then you can start charging a fee.
On the opposite side of the scale, if you have a traditional location, with monthly overheads, you can’t keep doing free consultations. Firstly, it’s not expected and secondly it can ruin your credibility. People expect to be charged a fee and you can’t build trust with zero credibility.
Therefore your product or service and how you provide it to the consumer, online versus traditional, has got to match your what you charge, if you want to  to build credibility and long term trust.
Tip # 2: When you’re hiring people you’ve got to trust yourself and believe that you’ve made the right choice. Stop jumping back in when you’re not needed. After you’ve given them guidance and training, step back and trust they can do the job as good as you.
You’ve got to give them space, give them a chance to succeed or fail, and if they do fail, don’t dive back in and do it yourself, which is our natural instinct as leaders, instead pick them back up and let them have another go. Eventually they’ll be doing it right, which will give you TIME to go off and do other things of greater value.

Hour 40: Marketing Using Stories

Hour 40 - Las Vegas Day 6

The Savvy Dentist Podcast - Ep25: Marketing Your Practice Using Stories. In this episode Dr. Jesse Green interviews Valerie Khoo, author of ‘Power Stories’ - The 8 Stories You Must Tell To Build An Epic Business.

You should be using stories in most of your marketing to assist in getting your message across to the consumer (Patient, Client or Customer). Stories will help your consumers get to know you better and I’ve said this before, consumers will give money to people and businesses they know and trust.

The biggest takeaway for me was to make sure your stories are always AUTHENTIC. Don’t make things up in your marketing just because it sounds good, your consumers are not stupid. Basically ‘don’t make shit up’.

Bonus takeaway point: When you start a story make sure there is always some form of closure. Don’t leave open ended stories, this frustrates people.

Hour 39 - Procrastination

Hour 39 - Las Vegas Day 5
The Productivity Show podcast - Episode 99: Procrastination.
I’ve listened to 39 podcasts and with this particular episode Dr. Brent Seaver and I both agreed that this was not one of the best ones…it was all over the place. It had some good tips, which we’ll share but he didn’t fulfil our expectations based on the title of the podcast episode.
Tip # 1: You may have a large number of tasks to do and it can sometimes be overwhelming, so his advice was to just pick one and at least start on it, and make sure you go back to your task list and review it on a regular basis. Don’t wait a year review your tasks / goals, instead check and review them every 12 weeks or 90 days.
Tip # 2: We need to learn to schedule things and break things down into smaller tasks, and you need to schedule these tasks into your diary, otherwise they’ll pass you by. If you chunk your big tasks down into smaller achievable tasks it will look far easier to complete and will reduce procrastination.
Also, if you have similar tasks, group them together and they will be easier to complete. For example, if you’re going on a holiday and you need to book accommodation, flights, travel insurance and a few day trips, instead of trying to complete each task individually on different days, block out time to complete them all at the same time, in one time block.
So yes, we did take away some great advice but the podcast itself is a little disjointed.

Hour 38 - 5 Things Successful People Do

Hour 38 - Las Vegas Day 4
Andrew Matthews - The Being Happy Podcast Episode 3: 5 Things Successful People Do - That You Can Do Too!
Tip # 1: Successful People Start Small - For example Steven Spielberg was shooting home movies, editing them and charging his friends a small fee to watch them way before he starting doing Hollywood blockbusters. Ingvar Kamprad, the owner of Ikea was selling a lot of smaller items before he came up with the idea of selling collapsible furniture.
Andrew Matthews did over 200 professional talks FOR FREE, both locally and overseas, before he was ever paid, and now he is paid a very well.
I have a lot of author and non-author friends who want to be professional speakers, however maybe we need to keep this tip of starting small in mind. Not every talk we do, especially in the early stages of our careers, needs to be paid for, and instead we should be using some of these opportunities to hone our craft.
Tip # 2: We need to learn to ask for HELP. Often we won’t ask for help, because of fear of rejection, but by not asking you’ll never know the answer.
When we allow someone else to help us, it can often be a pleasure to them and it can opens up opportunities for ourselves, and if we do get rejected, eventually you’ll get use to it and it will remove your fear of rejection in the future.
So ask for help when you need it, especially from friends and family.

Today’s tips: There’s two tips because I have a guest walker, Dr. Brent Seaver
Tip # 1: At various times in your life you’re going to have different priorities. It could be family, work, or your health, so you have to learn to manage your time around those priorities as they arise.
Tip # 2: Most people start their day in reaction, instead of being proactive. So we want to start the day with intention. The last thing you want to do is wake up and jump straight into our emails…this is reactive.
You need to write down the top three priorities of the day and what you want to accomplish in that day, and then make them priorities and with applied intention. It’s up to us to create a disciplined life for ourselves.

Hour 36: Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit Of Less

Hour 36: Las Vegas

The Productivity Show podcast - Episode 102: An interview with Greg McKeown author of Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit Of Less
Youtube Video with Greg McKeown: http://bit.ly/1qSx22n
Todays Tip: People fail because they’re kept busy do unessential tasks, instead of focusing on what is essential. They’ll have a massive ‘To Do List’ and they’ll tick off a pile of tasks each day, but fail to do any task that helps achieve their goals.
So here’s the answer: Write a list of everything that needs to be done, and then pick the top three personal tasks and the top three business tasks and then work on them first before doing anything else. Checking your emails are not that important.
Everyday you should be doing a task that leads you closer to your long term goals, and in this podcast Greg McKeown wasn’t just talking about five or ten year goals, he went on to say that you should have a 100 year goal. What legacy do you want to leave behind.
And finally, after identifying your top three essential tasks, pick the most important and work on that first before moving onto number two.

Side note: We’ve all heard about multitasking and it’s been proven that we are less efficient when we try to multitask. Staying focused on one task at a time will be far more productive.
STAY FOCUSED DAILY AND ACHIEVE BIG THINGS

Hour 35 - Talking Service with Kate Edwards

Hour 35: Today’s podcast: Marketing Over Coffee - Talking Service With Kate Edwards. Kate Edwards is the author of Hello, And Every Little Thing That Matters.

Today’s tip: Anyone can provide an average service…it’s not really that hard. Simply going through the motions is not really providing a great service.
What makes a great service experience is enthusiasm and excitement, so if you’re about to employ someone in the service industry, these two qualities will result in positive outcomes for both you and the customer.
People with enthusiasm and excited will work harder and longer than someone without these qualities.

Here’s my question to you: Do you have enthusiasm in your day to day activities?
BE AWESOME

Hour 34 - 4 Keys To Reaching High Performance

Hour 34:

Arizona Day 6: Today I was joined by Dave M Frees and we listened to The Charged Life with Brendon Burchard called The 4 Keys To Reaching High Performance.
This recording is slightly longer than usual, but when you have the opportunity to listen to Dave share his wisdom you never want to cut it short.
Tip # 1: It’s so important to look after your psychology, your mindset and how you think. You’ve got to find ways to keep optimistic and stay motivated every day, however at last weekends Business Black Ops, guest speaker Jocko Willink explained that motivation is fine, but being disciplined is far more important.
Tip # 2: Brendon mention that you can only go so far yourself in achieving high performance, but eventually you have to persuade people, and influence them to help you adopt your dreams…HOWEVER (Now Dave shares what he really thinks).
Persuasion and influence and two entirely different things. Persuasion is hard, you’ve got to get people looking at things in a new way and think about things from a new perspective, but to be influential is ultimately what you want.
To be persuasive you really want to know what they want. Their wants and needs, and what their dreams are. Find the intersection and deliver to them what they really want and need and this builds trust.
When you use persuasion and you build trust, that’s when you can really influence someone. They will automatically come to you knowing you will honestly tell them what they need to know.
So yes become a more skilled persuader, but really focus on becoming more influential.

Hour 33 - Enjoying Your Work

HOUR 33:

Arizona Day 5: - Today’s podcast was the Being Happy Podcast with Andrew Matthews, Episode 2, titled Enjoying Your Work.
In this podcast Andrew discussed five really good tips about how to enjoy your work more, but the one tip that resonated with me the most and the one I would like to share is this: All work can be boring and repetitive, no matter what the occupation.
If you’re an Accountant, a Doctor, or a Brick Layer, there will be moments when your job and day to day routine is repetitive and in some cases boring, however it’s how you approach your work that’s more important. It’s your attitude!
If you approach every workday with a good attitude and try and be the best you can be, regardless of the task, you will never be bored. Yes, it may be repetitive, but it will never be boring if you’re constantly pushing yourself.

Hour 32 - Accountability & Branding

HOUR 32: Arizona Day 4: Podcast - The #AskGaryVee Show Episode 229:

As usual Gary had dozens of tips and business hacks, but today Tom Foster and I are going to share just two.
Tip # 1: Accountability - Gary called out one of his team members, Randy, and  told him that when he says he wants something linked to an episode, he wants it linked to an episode. Obviously Randy wasn’t hearing Gary, but now Gary has made him very accountable, so I don’t think he will ever make this error again.
As promised here is the podcast link:
Tip # 2: The first question on the show was about the branding. What has built his empire, was it the brand of the company or was it Gary Vee himself, and the answer is it’s both.
Your brand is you! What attracts people to Gary is his personality, his interests, what he talks about and what he does, and that’s what you have to do in your marketing as well. Your brand it critical, it’s your name and what you do.

365 Hour 31

HOUR 31:

Arizona Day 3: Today’s podcast was The Charged Life With Brendon Burchard - 5 Ways To Overcome Adversity.
I was lucky to  have two friends join me for the walk today, Tom Foster and Brian Slater and to be in the video they also had to listen to the podcast and share their takeaway points, so today you’re getting three massive takeaways.
# 1: When you have adversity in your life, ask for help. Don’t wait until the shit has hits the fan or the problem has becomes too big to fix. The earlier you ask for help, the earlier you’re going to solve the problem.
# 2: Keep things in perspective. You know from experience that you’ve had adversity in your past and it’s always turned out okay, so it’s just a cycle. You’ve got to learn to live with the cycles.
# 3: With all adversity there’s something you’re going to learn and you’re going to come out stronger. Keep belief in yourself and take little action steps everyday and eventually you will overcome it. In the end you will be better for the struggle.

Hour 30: The Jocko Willink Podcast Ep 32

HOUR 30: Arizona Day 2: Today I listen to the Jocko Willing Podcast Episode 32: Titled Privileged People, Leading Women Teams, Discipline Equals Financial Freedom, Does Micro Managing Ever Work?
Podcast link: http://apple.co/26B5wLE
In this Jocko discussed a guy who was a black belt in Jujitsu who demoted himself from a black belt to a purple belt. He did this because after taking a long period off from training he didn’t feel he was worthy of holding that title because he had lost his skills.
After a period of time and hard training he did promote himself back to black belt, but here’s the point I took away…what skills are you losing because your failing to maintain them.
Doesn’t matter if you’re in IT, Medicine or any other profession, if you want to maintain your skills and knowledge you ‘must’ stay on a path of constant learning, retraining and keeping your skills up to date.
