Hour 217 - Self Publish The Best Seller Inside Of You - Part 2

HOUR 217: (OSAKA, Japan) - Optimal Startup Daily with Lee Rankinen and Justin Malik, Episode 85: Self-Publish The Bestseller Inside You - Part Two.

(Information in this podcast episode are based on tips from acclaimed author James Altucher)

#1: Money - you can make more money self publishing, because you can direct your own career. You can take it where ‘you’ want it to go.

#2: Marketing - you have control of how and where your book is marketed.

#3: You can redefine what a book is - As far as publisher is concerned if you’re not writing 40,000+ words they’re not interested, but some of the most successful self published books have only been 7000 words. Also you can write about anything you want (eg: family history)

#4: Self publish, then publish - Publishers often look at self publishers like the minor leagues, and they are always scouting the market. This is exactly how 50 Shades of Grey became so popular.
Bonus tips not on video:

#5: No Stereotyping - As a self published author you can write a finance book and your next book can be about cooking. A publisher would never let you do this.

#6: A book is really just a very big business card, and it’s great for business.

The past two podcast episodes have been taken from an original blog post written by James Altucher, so if you’d like to read the original blog, here is the link: (what I wrote only scratched the surface)
